Scarce personal account of two Shrewsbury school
masters - Evelyn Southwell and Malcolm White. Inseperable
companions they joined the Rifle Brigade( the 1st and 9th
battalions) and after training were sent to France. White
was killed on the first day of the Somme leading his men
in front of Mailly-Maillet. Southwell was shot by a sniper
in Delville Wood in September 1916. The text consists of
letters by the two to each other and family and friends.
